Dr. Temperance Brennan is a forensic anthropologist for the Jeffersonian Institute in Washington, DC. She also works closely with the FBI when her particular talents are required, partnered with Special Agent Seeley Booth. While a brilliant scientist, her knowledge in other arenas is fairly sparse. She tends to respond to almost any pop culture reference with, "I don't know what that means." And, by her own admission, her social skills are somewhat limited, though she could never be described as shy. In fact she can sometimes be blunt to the point of rudeness.
Brennan is in her early thirties, tall, with brown hair and blue eyes. She favors slacks and blazers, lab coats, and unusual ethnic jewelry.
Brennan’s life revolves around her work. When she's not working, she writes best-selling mystery novels (about a forensic anthropologist). She also enjoys and excels at physical activities. Over the past year, under the influence of her friends, she has begun to get out of the lab a little more.
Brennan’s character is strongly influenced by the disappearance of her parents, who vanished when she was fifteen years old. Her older brother, Russell, was unable to cope with the situation and let her go into foster care (a near fifteen-year estrangement between the siblings ensued). Brennan was forced to seek her brother out when their mother’s remains were discovered among the Jeffersonian’s backlog of cases. The investigation uncovered that fact that Brennan’s parents were not even remotely the people she thought they were.
Brennan and her brother reconciled, but unfortunately it was to be short-lived. A threat to their lives brought their father out of self-imposed exile with a literal vengeance. In the end, Brennan was forced to watch her family leave her behind again.
But the family that she has created for herself—her friends and colleagues—is always there for her.
Temperance Brennan is from the television show Bones and the novels of Kathy Reichs, and is the property of Fox TV and Dr. Reichs. She appears here solely for the purpose of role-playing in , from which no profit whatsoever is being made. This portrayal will rely more on the TV version than the novels. Dr. Brennan is played by the lovely Emily Deschanel, who the mun also does not own.
